Composites OptiPart™ Design Process Validates
Revolutionary
Chassis Design for DiMora Motorcar
$2 Million Automobile
Carbon fiber leaders join DiMora Motorcar as the newest Natalia SLS 2
Technology Partner
Aug. 10, 2007 (Orange City, IA) - Quatro
Composites, a leader in carbon fiber
design and manufacturing, has become the latest Technology Partner to
support DiMora
Motorcar’s development of the Natalia SLS 2 sport luxury sedan. Their
design parameter
analysis enabled DiMora to refine the design of its radical
chassis—based upon carbon
fiber technology—that will be far lighter and stronger than those used
in other luxury
automobiles.
A series of Finite
Element Analysis (FEA) tests were performed on the Natalia’s chassis
design at Quatro’s Technical Development Center in Poway, California.
The proprietary
OptiPart™ methodology was used to develop an optimum product design for
improved
performance characteristics for the world’s first hand-built, $2
million, 16-cylinder
production automobile.
“The primary goal
of the analysis was to achieve optimal torsional and bending stiffness
of Natalia’s revolutionary chassis, while also minimizing weight,”
explains Quatro’s
Development Engineering Manager. “Our OptiPart™ design process helps
identify areas
where the stiffness, strength, vibration characteristics, and crash
performance properties
can be improved.”
DiMora Motorcar
Founder and CEO Alfred DiMora notes that “Quatro Composites has
an impressive understanding of the properties of carbon fiber
technologies and the
innovations they facilitate. Their experience in aircraft design is
directly applicable to the
Natalia SLS 2, as we integrate aerospace technology developments as
much as
automotive innovations. Their analysis both validated our design and
identified places
where a minor change would yield a major improvement in stiffness or
other
characteristics. They are an important part of the DiMora design
development team.”
Quatro’s OptiPart™
design service allows customers to optimize a products carbon fiber
design and composite manufacturability. Quatro designs and manufactures
carbon fiber
composite components for a variety of industries. Corporate
headquarters and
manufacturing facilities are located in Orange City, Iowa.
